Event Details
This class is for kids in grades 1 – 4. We will learn theater skills through creative and imaginative play! Basic foundational improv techniques are introduced through age appropriate exercises and games. Kids will especially build confidence in front a group. The children are constantly creating their own scenes and characters, and cooperative play and teamwork is encouraged throughout. The students share what they have learned with their family during the final class.
Week 1: Hello and Ensemble building! – objective: Students will be able to make new friends and begin to trust one another! * vocabulary learned: ensemble, scene partners, warm-up, trust, respect, improvise & cheat-out
Week 2: Yes AND! – objective: Students will learn the power of agreement and gifting! * vocabulary learned: Yes And, agreement, gifting, teamwork, & listening
Week 3: Who, Where, & What! – objective: Students will practice establishing scenes! * vocabulary learned: Establishing a scene, scene work, & actor’s toolbox
Week 4: Space work! – objective: Students will learn how to use the imaginary space around us! * vocabulary learned: space work, imagination, physicality & observation
Week 5: Character Development! – objective: Students will learn how to use their voices and bodies to create fun, different characters to play! * vocabulary learned: character, vocal quality, body language, inspiration, & dynamic
Week 6: SHAREformance! – objective: Students will share what we’ve learned with our family and friends and have a BLAST doing it! * vocabulary learned: perform, applause, audience etiquette, support, & connect
Lead Instructor: Hannah Chiclana is a working actor in the SE. She has been a teaching artist for a little over 12 years; performing, directing, and teaching all ages at places like the Alliance Theatre (ATL), Whole World Improv Theatre (ATL), Orlando REP Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, WRP Theatre (Orlando) and The Center of Puppetry Arts (ATL). She loves to promote community, self-love, growth, and fun through her work and feels most at home being silly, while learning with the younger generations!
COVID RULES: We will socially distance. We will wear masks at all times. We will wash our hands and sanitize all shared surfaces. We will have temperature checks.
