“Too much sanity may be madness— and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!”
Descend with us deep into the bowels of a dark and fearsome prison during the Spanish Inquisition. It’s there that we find Miguel de Cervantes (Justin Kent), a poet and actor, and his faithful servant (Ray Ellis) imprisoned amongst bandits, thieves, and killers. To save his skin, Cervantes must tell the story of a lifetime using only what’s in his trunk and strewn about the prison. The imprisoned poet invites us and the inmates to escape the prison through his imagination. There is no more Cervantes and no more prison. There is only a dauntless knight: Don Quixote de La Mancha!
With book by Dale Wasserman, lyrics by Joe Darion, and music by Mitch Leigh, MAN OF LA MANCHA is a hilarious and touching musical retelling of one of the greatest novels ever written, DON QUIXOTE. At times, hilarious and at others deeply moving, it is one of the most beloved musicals in the history of the stage and we’d hate for you to miss it.
Directed by Travis Spangenburg with musical direction by Warren Heilman, MAN OF LA MANCHA is filled with familiar faces to Savannah theatregoers as well as some new exciting talent to bring this delightful tale to life.
